The Pandora Papers

Post by Froggers »

Everyone's probably aware by now of the Pandora Papers and how they have revealed the lengths the rich and powerful go to in order to hide their wealth from prying eyes. What a sorry mess this all is! I can't help wonder whether we'll ever have anything like a fair and equitable society when there is so much corruption and selfishness in the world.

The corruption and selfishness are certainly not something new, it's been rife through all of recorded human history, and no doubt long before that. In my view, only when the masses get some meaningful decision-making power rather than just a vote at the ballot box will there be any chance of significant change.

The rich could change the world for the better. They could eliminate global poverty for one thing, and bring everybody up to at least a humane base level that elevates them above death from starvation and thirst. But it doesn't suit capitalist economics to do this. It's a case of selfish greed above empathy. It's written into countless pages of the human story.
