Too late to stop the slide?

Here you can discuss the burning political and corporate issues that are currently shaping our world, and the pretenders to a throne that doesn't exist: dominion over humanity and all other life on Earth. This forum will be further subdivided into specialised topics at a later date.

Too late to stop the slide?

Post by DownUnder »

Are we merely fantasising about a better world? Is it already too late to stop the slide into fascist totalitarianism? The UK and US have in recent years seen increasingly right-wing governments that seem to think they can just lie to the electorate and carry on following their own (hidden) agendas behind the scenes, with their mouthpieces in mainstream media (both television and printed news sources) helping to keep the smokescreen intact. On the other side of the so-called divide, Russia and China seem no better. In all these major nations, and no doubt others too, a ruling hegemony that seems isolated from, and largely unaccountable to, the masses, seems to be steering us all towards a future of their choice rather than ours: one where most peoples' personal liberties are gradually eroded, and the masses become enslaved to the whims of a small elite and the politicians and corporations that do their bidding.

What do others think?

I can't help feel that this is indeed the case. It seems that there is a slow slide towards authoritarianism across the world. It would appear to me that the global elite can see the masses beginning to awaken and realise that the resistance that ensues is a danger to the power dynamics that are skewed in their favour; therefore, it's in their interests to strip that power away before the momentum has a chance to grow. Somehow, this has to be resisted, but in a peaceful manner. The exact means is one of many issues that will hopefully be discussed in depth on these forums in the coming months and years. At this point I would restate my own view that boycott and protest are two of the most powerful tools we have.

Yes - look at this! It appears that it's not only in the US, but the UK too, where government is spying on its citizens:

Indeed. That Bureau Of Investigative Journalism site is excellent, highly recommended, I recently bookmarked it in the Reference section of the main website at https://globalfightback.org/reference_archive.html (for mobile devices the url https://globalfightback.org/mob.reference_archive.html takes you straight to the relevant page on the mobile version of the site).

Not just these two countries either, it's probably even worse in Russia and China. Indeed, most governments are probably spying on their people to a greater or lesser degree.
