It’s important that the West doesn’t get caught up in another war in the Middle East based on fallacies, half-truths, and disinformation. Any military intervention should surely be under the international flag of the United Nations.

Worrying times: the current escalation of military conflict around the world, especially Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, could of course all be orchestrated. Regardless of this it could escalate into something that spirals totally out of control.

Barack Obama has intimated that the US now seeks greater harmony amongst the nations of the world, especially in the Middle East, and has spoken out against illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank; but it’s unlikely that all Congress share his sentiments. This is an age that is crying out for the hand of peace that Obama ostensibly proffers: the world is watching.

The UK’s Tori£$ are traditionally a party of vested interests: those of the rich, privileged elite. Conservative by name, conservative by nature; few believe that they are capable of any real, positive and, most importantly, all-inclusive change behind all the doublespeak and rhetoric.

There is so much cause for concern in today’s world, including the age-old tribal squabbles, and the newer threats from technology, population growth and corporate vested interests on ecological stability. Nevertheless, it’s not an insurmountable challenge if we can all move towards some consensus that involves greater humility and sacrifice.

Greater spiritual growth is surely a prerequisite of future evolution, at both an anthropological and an individual  level, helping to destroy the old tribal barriers of hate, mistrust, and prejudice.

Life is both precious and fragile. Our ancestors shaped the world we live in today. Many mistakes were made based on a self-interest that derived from the primitive instinct for survival. In our brief time on the stage of mortal life maybe we can help make a shift towards greater understanding and tolerance, both in our personal lives and in our contribution to the greater whole.
